Susan M. Haney - Full Professor 1st Grade (Sokako) of Ikenobo Ikebana Prof. Susan Haney encountered the art of ikebana, Japanese flower arranging, while an accounting major at the  University of Illinois. She fell in love, became the class teaching assistant, and began studying the Japanese arts of  kabuki (dance), sumi-e (painting), chado (tea ceremony), and raku (pottery), as well as Japanese literature and movies  while at the University. Her love of Ikenobo ikebana led her to become a founding member of the Illinois Prairie Chapter of Ikenobo, as well as  to later become a member and President of the Chicago Suburban Chapter of Ikenobo. She travels for Ikenobo throughout the US and Canada, as well as a dozen times to Japan. She is a member of the  first English-language class of the Ikenobo Chuo Kenshu Gakuin in Kyoto, receiving the same training as the Japanese  Visiting Professors who tour the US. This program requires a week in each season to complete your year, which is  capped by a judged exhibition. Prof. Haney has received the Tachibana Award for excellence with her exhibition piece  and work in class.
