Sensei Emiko Suzuki Bio

Emiko Suzuki is a Senior Professor 2nd Grade of Ikenobo School of Ikebana headquartered in Kyoto, Japan.  She taught ikebana to students of all ages for 13 years in Japan before she came to western North Carolina in  August 2007. She began studying Ikenobo Ikebana in 1986 in Japan. She recently got the highest score with a Free Style  Ikebana at the final exam of the Tokubetsu-ka, the Advanced Course of the Ikenobo Central Training Institute  of Headquarters, Kyoto. She recently completed sogo-Tokubetsu-ka with Rikka course. Emiko graduated from Western North Carolina University with a Masters of Art Teacher in May 2011 and with  a Masters of Fine Arts in December 2014. She always tries to bring the Japanese cultural spirit to local organizations through ikebana, tea ceremony, and  other aspects of Japanese culture. She continues to teach Ikenobo Ikebana lessons and tea ceremony. She is a President of the Blue Ridge Chapter of Ikebana Society and a member of the Asheville Chapter of  Ikebana International.

Sensei Laura Felt Bio

Traveling the world with Navy husband Bob for 31 years, they spent four years in Spain, four years in Japan,  and two years in South Korea, as well as some wonderful Stateside duty. While in Japan she taught at a  Japanese High School and for many years returned each summer for their English Camp. This is when she  would stock up on washi paper, obi, and interesting Japanese antiques for our ginzas. Laura has studied Ikebana in Japan, South Korea, and the United States, joining the Blue Ridge Chapter of  Ikenobo Ikebana Society in 2007, where she has served as Vice President since 2009. She is a student of  Emiko Suzuki and has attained the level of senior professor. A member of the Asheville Ikebana International  chapter since 2009, she has given programs in washi paper crafts, obi decorations, and ikebana to that  chapter. She has also given programs to II chapters in Naples, Fl., Wilmington, NC, and Atlanta.
